How much does importing a car to Moldova cost?

What taxes are paid when clearing a car through customs?
Customs clearance includes excise based on engine displacement, age and fuel type, plus import fees. The customs calculator applies the current official rates and shows the calculated amount for your car, including the rules that change from 2027.
What changes for customs from 2027?
From 1 January 2027, imported cars will pay 20% VAT on the customs value, and excise moves to a single rate based on age: zero for cars under 4 years old, rising to 32.57 lei/cm³ at 15+ years. The 2–10% luxury tax on cars above 600,000 lei is repealed. The rules follow the fiscal policy draft published by the Ministry of Finance on 11 June 2026 and may still change before adoption. The 2027 customs calculator compares the cost under today's rules with the new ones.
